Splash Day was a Home Run

This summer we got the opportunity to attend one of the Charleston Dirty Birds baseball games. Thanks to the generosity of Taylor Raab and Janney Montgomery Scott, our 3rd-5th graders attended Splash Day at the GoMart Ballpark on July 16th. Every kid also received a baseball and the opportunity to meet some of the players as well as get their baseball signed by those players.

Splash Day is an event that is hosted a couple of times during the summer by the Dirty Birds. Splash Days are a way to beat the heat during the high temperatures of summer and stay cool during the whole game. Even when the weather was hot, sitting in the splash zone made sure that we stayed cool. On this particular Splash Day, the Charleston Dirty Birds played against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Our tickets had us near the Blue Crabs’ dugout and we got to watch their batters warm up.

We also got the opportunity to experience “Toast Man” during the game as our tickets were in section 106, right by his typical section of 107. The Toast Man provided burnt toast to the crowd and to us in his longstanding tradition of throwing burnt toast when the opposing batter strikes out. Although the Dirty Birds lost this particular game 1-6, we still had a wonderful time at the ballpark!

Thank you again to Taylor Raab and Janney Montgomery Scott for providing us with this incredibly fun day out.
