The snow last weekend has kept Kanawha County Schools and the Bob Burdette Center closed for the entire week.
While the snow has kept students out of the classroom, it doesn’t mean that learning has to stop. One great way to keep kids engaged on days without school or afterschool programs is by encouraging reading and creativity. Whether through physical books or audiobooks, reading provides children with a calm way to relax while staying mentally engaged. Puzzles are another excellent option to keep the brain engaged while allowing children to either work alone or with others.
For kids with lots of restless energy, indoor obstacle courses made from household items and games like Simon Says can provide much needed movement and fun. When weather and safety allow, bundling up and playing outside in the snow can also be a great way to spend time together. Board games are another classic boredom buster as we all wait for the snow to melt.
No matter how everyone chooses to spend their snow days, we hope that you all are able to stay safe and warm. We look forward to hopefully seeing everyone next week for the first week of February!
