We’re Halfway Through the Summer Program!

We are reaching the halfway point of our Summer Program! That does not mean it is too late to sign up, though. We are still accepting applications for summer students and will soon begin accepting registrations for our after-school programming.

Our Summer Program is lots of fun for our students. Students begin arriving at 8:00 a.m. and leave our program by 5:30 p.m. each day. They are provided with breakfast, lunch, and a snack every day while in our care. This is made possible through our partnership with SFSP (Summer Food Service Program).

We begin each morning with lessons and academic enrichment to keep learning going throughout the summer. Summer learning loss can cause reading and math skills to regress from where they were at the end of the school year. NWEA has a great blog post about summer learning loss that you can read here. We hold our academic lessons in the morning to help combat summer learning loss and improve our students’ academic skills by the end of the summer.

In the afternoon, we follow a more traditional summer program schedule. We still include a bit of learning, but we spend more time playing games and sometimes even watching movies.

Every Friday, we have either taken our students on a field trip or planned something extra special for them here at the Bob Burdette Center. One week, when rain canceled our planned pool trip, students enjoyed a pajama day complete with a movie and popcorn. They had a great time spending a fun Friday afternoon with us, even though they could not go to the pool.

If you would still like to register for our Summer Program, we would love to meet with you! Please fill out our online enrollment form or stop by in person to pick up a paper enrollment form. We are confident the second half of the summer will be just as fun as the first!
