Art at the Bob Burdette Center

While we’ve shared information in the past about programs like STEM and Social Emotional Learning, one area we haven’t highlighted as much is our art program. We’ve featured visits to local art museums on our blog, but we haven’t talked much about how art is incorporated into our everyday curriculum.

Art is a dedicated part of our schedule every Thursday morning during our Summer Program, but creativity is woven into activities throughout the week. Our art projects give students opportunities to express themselves, work together, and connect what they’re learning to the themes of the summer.

In one recent activity, students designed and decorated sports jerseys to represent themselves. In another, they worked collaboratively to create classroom decorations inspired by this summer’s Olympic theme.

Art is an opportunity for students to build confidence, strengthen problem-solving skills, and express their unique ideas. Some projects encourage collaboration, while others allow students to explore their individual creativity. No matter the activity, our art program helps students develop important skills while having fun and taking pride in what they create.
