“Be still, and know that I am God…”– Psalm 46:10

Our theme for week 3 of our summer program was ‘Music Week’. That week the afternoon activities included: Musical Chairs, Limbo, Music Bingo, Classroom Karaoke, Music Treasure Hunt, Freeze Dance, and others. But the highlight activity was what we called a ‘Listen and Paint’ activity. The idea came from what some adults participate in these days known as a ‘Sip and Paint’ (where they sip on a drink and paint). However, our students would sit quietly and work on painting while listening to classical music.

We love coming up with different ideas at the BBC to have the students get their energy out, like kids need to do. Sometimes though, it is also good for the students to be able to quiet their minds. The goal of this activity was to teach the kids how it’s also great to be still in some moments. We were proud that the idea not only went very well, but that we can be a program that provides fun… as well as some peacefulness.
