Marching into National Reading Month

March is National Reading Month! This month highlights the importance of reading in adolescence and encourages daily reading among children, families, and communities. March was chosen because March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s birthday. During this month, you can celebrate by reading more and encouraging reading within your family.

At the Bob Burdette Center, we discussed the importance of reading in a previous blog post at the beginning of January. Reading is an essential part of life and a daily activity for many people. Through reading, we learn how to navigate and process crucial information. One of our main goals at the Bob Burdette Center is reading enrichment. Through one-to-one tutoring and daily lessons, we work to strengthen reading skills and improve reading comprehension in our students. It is one of the many ways we support student success.

National Reading Month is not just for children as people of all ages are encouraged to participate. Reading is a popular hobby that helps many individuals relax and decompress after a long day. In group settings, reading is also a wonderful way to connect with family members and the larger community. Book clubs and reading groups provide great opportunities to meet new people and serve as valuable community resources. There are book clubs available for many different age groups and a wide variety of genre interests.
