Positive Behavior Incentive Program

In our first blog post of 2026, we discussed the launch of a new behavior incentive program at the Bob Burdette Center. Now that we have been implementing this program for a few months, we would like to share how it has been working.

The behavior incentive program is designed to improve student behavior through positive reinforcement. There are two main ways we encourage and reinforce positive behavior. One method is through the use of sticker sheets.

The sticker sheets list each child at a site and are displayed in the classroom. Enrichment Leaders award stickers at the end of each day to students who demonstrate good behavior during the afterschool program. These sheets allow students to visually track their behavior and take accountability for their actions. They also serve as the foundation for our end-of-the-month rewards. Students who earn enough stickers qualify for a special event. January’s reward was a trip to the movie theater, while February’s was a field day. These rewards vary to maintain student interest, and we strive to make each one engaging so students remain motivated to participate.

The sticker sheets are designed monthly by Site Coordinators. The sticker sheet displayed on the right was created by the Site Coordinator at Mary C. Snow for the month of April. Although student names have been removed for privacy, all sticker sheets follow this general layout.

The second way we encourage positive behavior is through a ticket system. Staff distribute tickets to students for various positive actions, such as completing lessons, helping clean tables, and showing respect in the hallways and classrooms. Students can then spend these tickets at the Center Store, where they can purchase small toys and other items.

Since implementing these systems at the beginning of the year, we have seen an increase in positive behavior. As we continue to refine and develop this program, we look forward to supporting our students’ growth.
