On Thursday, September 25, students from the Bob Burdette Center enjoyed a special movie night at the LaBelle Theater in South Charleston to watch Matilda. The event recognized students who have shown positive behavior and strong participation at the Center—our first reward event of the year, with more to come.
Families and staff shared a true movie-night experience complete with pizza and popcorn, laughter, and a few lessons in courage from Matilda herself. Based on the book by Roald Dahl, the film follows a clever, determined girl who learns to stand up for herself—a message that mirrors the values we aim to build in every child we serve.
We are especially grateful to Dr. Carter, whose generosity made this outing possible. A retired cardiologist and longtime supporter of Charleston’s West Side, Dr. Carter continues to give his time and resources to help children experience the kind of cultural and enrichment opportunities many take for granted. His commitment helps create lasting memories and meaningful experiences for our students.
Events like this are only possible through the generosity of community members like Dr. Carter, whose support brings joy and opportunity to our children.
